7/2/2015 - UWC

We left at 7 AM in order to reach United World College in Waterford by 8 AM (according to the front office, an hour was needed) - but arrived in 31 minutes (clearly they didn't account for Sifiso's awesomeness).  We waited for Leah's contact who led us to a room upstairs where we were to meet with the students and teachers from an extracurricular group working on a renewbale energy demonstration project.

They explained the project to us, which they had a grant for, which would be building three energy demos: a PV system, a wind turbine, and a biofuels system from the remnants of their cafeteria.  We attempted to give some suggestions, but the teachers jumped in to explain the reasoning behind their design.  We broke into two groups for the students to give us a tour of the school, and it was a lot easier to speak to them about what they thought, then, and talk about science with them, too.  After our tours, we were invited for coffee and toast with the faculty, and chatted with them.  We also presented them with some goodies from the U of R admissions. The admissions counselor explained they already had three U of R pennants and generally seemed nonplussed.  I kind of wished we had saved the pennant for another school if they already had so many.

We left and headed back down the very steep roads and stopped in Mbabne for lunch, where we got a large platter of braai for the group (Swazi barbeque) as well as some pap (traditional Swazi maize, whipped up polenta-style).  We went home (Malandela's) by 3ish and prepared for our presentations tomorrow at UNISWA.
